Arrangement for the commencement of collation of results in Rivers State election governorship and state House of Assembly election which was disrupted due to activities of armed thugs and men in military uniforms in the office The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Port Harcourt has been finalized by INEC.
This arrangement was made known by the commission’s spokesperson, Festus Okoye, at a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. According to him, the activities had begun on the 19th March 2019 when the INEC engaged major actors in the election which took place in the state on 9th March, 2019.
Festus Okoye stated that having successful engaged all the major actors in the election, the next step will be an inter-agency meeting between the commission and other relevant agencies which is scheduled to take place on 29th March 2019, in Rivers State.
After the 29th March, 2019 meeting, the commission will be having a meeting with critical actors on 30th March, 2019, after which the headquarters of the commission will release a guideline for the continuation of the process.
According to INEC, there will be a revalidation of observers which will be done simultaneously in Abuja and Rivers State between 25th March, 2019 and 31st March, 2019, before the commencement of collation.
The collation of the results will commence in INEC headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital from 2nd April, 2019 to 5th April, 2019. After the collation of results has been completed, should there be a need for a supplementary election, the supplementary election will be carried out on 13th April, 2019 and the declaration of the final results will be between 13th and 15th April, 2019. Thereafter, Certificate of Return will then be issued to the winners on 19th April, 2019.
