An unidentified body has been recovered from the wrecked plane carrying Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson. The plane was said to have been carrying the Argentina-born professional football player disappeared on its way to Cardiff City.
According to The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in Britain, the body recovered was not given an identity as at Wednesday, 5th February, 2019.
The plane carrying the 28-year-old Argentina-born Emiliano Sala disappeared en route from Nantes in western France on January 21, 2019 to make his debut for English Premier League team for his new club, Cardiff City.
The wreaked plane was found by a privately-funded underwater search of the English Channel where the plane was said to have crashed into. The AAIB stated that the unidentified body was “successfully recovered” but attempts to recover the aircraft wreckage were unsuccessful.
The AAIB stated that the search team was forced to put an end to their recovery effort as a result of poor weather conditions.
Emiliano Sala and the pilot are believed to have died as the single-engined Piper Malibu aircraft crashed into the sea while travelling from France to join Welsh club Cardiff which he newly joined for a club-record fee of £15 million from French Ligue 1 club Nantes.
