Robbers killed police officer and injured two others in Osun bank robbery

At least one police officer has been killed and two civilians badly injured by gunshot on Thursday by robbers during a robbery incident at Polaris Bank at Ila Orangun town of Osun State.

The robbers shot and killed the police officer and injured two other civilians in an attempt to deploy security personnel to the robbery scene.

Reports reaching us say that the robbery attack which lasted for about two hours was carried out by about fifteen (15) robbers who left with an unspecified amount of money.

The robbers upon arrival to the bank announced their presence with very heavy gun shots which drove fear throughout the town paralysing transportation, social and economic activities throughout the town. They gained entrance into the banking hall by shattering the security door at the bank with explosives.

The inhabitants of Ila Orangun town expresses sadness and shock as the only commercial bank in the town is being attacked by men of the evil word, stating that this will discourage the bank from opening in the near future and also discourage other commercial banks which are nursing their intension to come to the town.

They expressed fears that the community is likely to go back to the day days before the arrival of Polaris Bank in the community where people have to make use of POS stands and pay unnecessary charges.

The robbery incident which was confirmed by The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Osun State Command, Foladade Odoro stated that the police officer died at the hospital while receiving treatment while the two civilians are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the state.

The police report on the robbery incident stated thus,  “At about 1630hrs, a gang of armed men attacked Polaris Bank, Ila Orangun. One Police Inspector and two other civilians were shot and injured in the process while an unspecified amount of money was stolen by the suspects.” “The injured police Inspector later died in the hospital while the others injured are receiving treatment.”
