Health and nutritive benefits of coconut oil

Coconut oil which is also referred to as copra oil, is an edible oil which is extracted from coconut. This oil is gotten from the kernel or meat of mature coconut harvested from coconut palm. It can also be said to be a fatty oil obtained from the flesh of the coconut, used in cooking and in cosmetic products.

The following are the health benefits of coconut oil:

  1. Rich in Saturated fats: Coconut oil is very healthy oil which is rich in saturated fats. This oil has different effects on the body when compared with other classes of oil. The saturated fats in coconut oil help in burning fat to make energy readily available for the body and the brain. Coconut oil also help to increase the good high-density lipoproteins (HDL) in the body which is known to reduce the propensity of developing heart disease
  2. Reduces overweight and obesity: Coconut oil help the body to increase the burning of fat, thereby reducing overweight and obesity. Burning of fats by coconut oil is due to the presence of  the medium chain triglycerides (MCT) present in coconut oil which has been proven to burn up to 5% fats within 24 hours.
