The reason why Nigeria is yet to defeat Boko Haram

According to the Bornu State Assistance Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bello, inadequate border policing gadgets limits the success recorded in the fight against the Boko Haram Terrorist Group in Nigeria.

The different security agencies in Nigeria lack adequate equipment for properly policing of the different entry points at the Nigerian borders hereby leading to influx of arms and ammunition by insurgents into the country.  These porous borders and poor technological equipment for surveillance has made it very easy for insurgents to enter and perpetuate different types of crimes and exit the country after they had completed their heinous acts.

Ahmed Bello made this declaration in a speech at Maiduguri when he represented the Commissioner of Police in the occasion of the commissioning of the equipment which includes electricity generating plant, computers, photocopiers, colour printers and first aid boxes donated by the United States Department of State to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Ahmed Bello reiterated that security agencies in the country will perform their duties better if they are provided with modern security gadgets such as close-circuit scanning cameras and the likes to enable them scan the luggage or people entering and exiting the country from a distance.

The police boss stated that there about 1236 identified illegal entry points into Bornu State from neighbouring Chad, Niger Republic and Cameroon. Policing these high numbers of entry points from these neighbouring countries into Bornu State without modern technological gadgets has posed a very big challenge to ensuring security in the state. He therefore called on all stakeholders, government and other security outfits to contribute their quota to ensuring adequate security in the state.

The Assistant Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, who represented The Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana identified lack of cooperation among the difference security agencies in the country as a bane of ensuring adequate security in the country.
