Police arrests supporters of African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowere in Lagos

Six (6) men who are believed to be supporters of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress,Omoyele Sowere has been arrested in Lagos for pasting the campaign posters of Omoyele Sowere at around 2:30 am on Sunday, 9th December, 2018.

 The spokesperson to the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Chike Oti, stated that the six (6) men were arrested as their actions contravenes the laws of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency which forbids the pasting of posters by advertisers at night.

In addition to pasting posters at night, the six (6) men also bridged the agreement in a meeting between political parties in Lagos State and the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi which prevents any political party members from destroying the campaign posters and other publicity materials of other political parties, in order to avoid contention and crises among supporters of different political parties. As at the time of their arrest, the suspects where destroying the posters of other political parties and replacing them with that of the African Action Congress presidential candidate, Mr. Omoyele Sowere.

The agreement reached by the political parties and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police which was attended by different political parties alongside their candidates and the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) tagged “Security and stakeholders meeting”on 5th December, 2018 at the Police Officers’ Mess located at GRA, Ikeja.

The six (6) men who were arrested by the Lagos State Command, Ikeja Division’s anti-crime patrol are: Damilola Omidiji, Michael Kate, Banwo Olagokun, Olagokun Odunayo, Kool-Kloud Henry and Ugaju Joseph. The exhibits recovered from the six (6) men on the time of their arrest include posters of Mr. Omoyele Sowere, the presidential candidates of the African Action Congress, a bucket containing gum inside, a brush and torn posters of candidates of other political parties.
