The
National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST)
is a parastatal
organization established under the Science and Technology Act No. 16 of 2003
whose mandate is to advise Government and other stakeholders on all science and
technology matters in order to achieve a science and technology led government.
The National Commission for Science and Technology invites applications from
suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill

the following post
tenable at its Secretariat in Lilongwe, situated in Lingadzi House, City
Centre.

Research
Officer (Health Social Sciences and Humanities) (S1)
Reporting
to Chief Research Services Officer (Health, Social Sciences and Humanities),
the Research Officer shall be responsible for encouraging, development and
utilization of technologies in Health, Social Sciences and Humanities (HSSH).
Key
duties and Responsibilities
·        
Support
R&D aimed at development, adaptation and commercialization of technologies
in the health, social sciences and humanities sectors;
·        
Initiate
R & D projects in the health, social science and humanities sectors;
·        
Prepare and
maintain a log of protocols for ethics review by the responsible committee(s)
in the Health, Social Sciences and Humanities
·        
Screen
for the completeness of the research protocol application package in accordance
with standard operating procedures in readiness for research ethics review by
the committee (s) organize meetings of committee(s) and any other meetings
within the Division of Health, Social Sciences and Humanities
·        
Prepare
and maintain a record of minutes of the committee(s) meetings
·        
Prepare
annual budgets for the committee (s) of the Division
·        
Prepare
and give feedback communication to investigators and applicants that are
awaiting feedback on their applications for research ethics approval and permit
·        
Prepare a
plan for periodical compliance inspection of the approved research protocols
·        
Prepare a
plan of action for the establishment of centers of excellence in health, social
sciences and humanities sectors;
·        
Perform
any other functions and duties as may be assigned by the Chief Research
Services Officer in the Division.
Knowledge
and Experience
·        
Must be
in possession of at least a Bachelor’s Degree in any field in the Health,
Social Sciences and Humanities. Possession of a Master’s Degree in Health,
Social Science and Humanities discipline may be an added advantage.
·        
Must have
a sound knowledge in conducting or coordinating Research and Development.
Those with a prior knowledge of servicing a research ethics committee may have
an added advantage.

and Remuneration
The
successful candidates shall be expected to resume duties immediately. NCST
offers a competitive package commensurate with experience and duties of
