2. WASH & Environment Coordinator

Responsibilities
WASH related activities:
- Responsible for a safe water supply in the camp (water testing,
treatment, and water supply mechanism to beneficiaries);
- Ensure maintenance of
the water system (water source, motor-pump, generator, distribution network,
reservoirs, tap stands) in the camp including keeping a record check-up
system, observations of security measures, good use and manipulation;
- Responsible for sanitation activities including waste management;
daily cleaning of latrines; and chemical spraying of latrines and
dwellings,
- Provide regular work plans, as well as progress reports;
- Responsible for timely and quality implementation of all WASH
related activities in line with established work plans and available budgets;
- Work closely together with various partners including refugee
committees in the areas of water and sanitation,
- Develop technical drawings, blue prints an BoQ’s for WASH related
construction activities;
- Organization of trainings and capacity building activities for
refugee committees, casual laborers, as well as ARC staff on Hygiene,
Sanitation, environment protection and best hygiene practices,
- External representation: Act as focal person for WASH related
activities in the camp and where requested, represent ARC in other forum
regarding WASH and Environment related matters;
- Supervision and monitoring
of the construction, emptying, replacing, cleaning and maintenance of
latrines in the camp. This includes keeping track record of the available
latrines in line with international standards on the number of people per
drop hole;
- Follow up on the
emptying of garbage pits and sanitation areas by ARC staff. This also
includes carrying out sensitization activities on waste disposal and the
usefulness of compostable waste;
- Organize and
supervise construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation and maintenance of
public showers, washstands, garbage pits, incinerators and drainages,
- Organize and
supervise communal work for cleaning of latrines, showers,
washstands, garbage pits, water kiosks and drainages;
- Any other duties as
requested by the District Site Manager

- Responsible for the establishment and running of tree nursery in
the camp and the organization of regular tree planting campaigns as well
as camp beautification activities;
- Responsible for record keeping of tree seedlings planted and
survival rate (database development and completion);
- Promote and
supervise wood-saving cooking stove construction and use;
- Responsible for regular report writing on environmental related
activities;
- In charge of developing, implementation and monitoring of
environmental related activities in the camps and preparation of concept
notes for new initiatives;
- Take the lead in carrying out research towards using environmental
friendly construction materials and piloting new ideas;
- Quality and timely implementation of soil protection activities
based on needs assessment and in line with available budget and approved
work plans (such as land slide prevention, retaining wall, drainages,
etc);
- Responsible for the development of blue prints, BoQ’s and
requisitions for environment related activities;
- Act as focal person for environment related activities with
partners, donors, beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
- Any other duties as requested by the District Site Manager.
