PURPOSE
OF POSITION:

The
purpose of this role is to support the Book Development Unit in the following
areas: a) increasing the supply and demand for children’s books in schools and
communities, and b) ensuring that educators, parents and children have the
skills and support to use books effectively for enjoyment and learning.

KEY
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Implementation:
- Provide
training and capacity building to a range of beneficiaries, including
teachers, school principals and district education officers in the
effective management of school and classroom book collections. - Support
the purchase of approved titles for distribution to schools, communities
and families and follow-up the logistics of distribution, in collaboration
with the procurement department. - Support
communities to establish, maintain and promote the use of comunity based
book collections. - Prepare
and submit monthly work plans and reports in accordance with the agreed
schedules with the Book Development & Use Coordinator
Monitoring
and evaluation:

- Support
the data collection for evaluation indicators; - Monitor
progress of the project against agreed targets and indicators; - Notify
leadership any potential constraints to implementation of project,
including over or under-spends so that action can be taken to address
this; - Identify
and document key lessons learned from the project, including success
stories.
External
Networking & Representation:

- Represent
Save the Children in relevant Sector and District meetings when requested
b leadership, represent the project to, and work with, the Government of
Rwanda, donors, INGOs and civil society organisations and networks at the
national level to increase coordination and learning and to support the
achievement of advocacy and policy objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential
University
degree in education, social work or social sciences;

- Good
understanding of the education system in Rwanda, specifically primary
education; - Ability
to develop constructive relationships with a wide range of partners,
including children, communities and local authorities; - Experience
of facilitating trainings and community mobilization; - Ability
to communicate effectively in Kinyarwanda and English: verbally and in
writing - Understanding
of and commitment to SCI mission, values and child rights-based
programming approaches.
Desirable
- Exposure
or direct experience with children’s’ book provision & use - Working
experience within the education, child rights or protection field

extends not only to children with whom SCI and its partners work directly,
but also includes children whom staff are responsible for. SCI
believes that the situation of children must be improved through the
promotion of their rights supported and demonstrated by all members of
staff. Save the Children International’s Code of Conduct sets out the
standards which all staff members must adhere to.
