Project
Description:
Land
O’Lakes International Development is seeking candidates for the Senior
Agronomist/ Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) position for an anticipated Feed the
Future Rwanda Sustainable Food, Agriculture, and Nutrition Activity. The
objective of this activity is to increase smallholder farmer incomes, improve
the nutritional status of Rwandan women and children, and increase the
resilience of the agriculture and food system to the changing climate.
Position
Summary:
The
Senior Agronomist/Deputy Chief of Party will lead implementation of the
Sustainable Agriculture Productivity Component. S/he will lead activities
focusing on training farmers on improved agriculture practices, facilitating
access to inputs and building farmers resilience to climate change. S/he will
serve as Acting Chief of Party, when required.
Reporting:
The
Senior Agronomist/Deputy Chief of Party will report to the Chief of Party.
Required
Skills and Qualifications:

7 years’ professional experience in developing countries, some of which should
be in Africa, in food security and agronomy in managing or implementing
development programs. Experience with East Africa or Rwanda agriculture sector
is an asset;

Solid foundation in a broad range of agriculture subjects preferred, including
areas such as agriculture economics, agriculture policy, agribusiness,
agronomy, agriculture extension, and market development;

Familiarity with nutrition sensitive and climate smart agriculture concepts;

Experience in designing or managing sustainable agricultural production
systems;

Familiarity with agriculture research integration in project implementation,
and experience working to improve private and public extension systems;
Experience designing, managing, and implementing gender sensitive agricultural
activities..
Experience
working with the maize, beans, horticulture value chains preferred.

Excellent English language communication and writing skills.
  • Knowledge
    of French and Kinyarwanda is an asset.
