Requirements
- National
Diploma in Draughting and design technology or equivalent - Four
(4) years in a mining or heavy engineering environment. 2 of which should
be in a mining environment of which 2 years must have been at Maintenance
Foreman Level or equivalent. - CAD or
equivalent training - Basic
MS Office application
Key
activities
- Provides
technical information to assist in the compilation of budgets - Participates
in the control of sectional costs by optimizing resource utilization in
area of work - Assesses
design requests (Project briefs) and investigates associated technical
problems and produces solutions accordingly - Plans
and schedules all jobs as allocated to him/her - Produces
complex sketches from information received from clients and/or the
supervisor - Produces
preliminary layouts, sections and final assembly drawings from information
received from the client , site measurements, sketches or existing
drawings using CAD or manual draughting techniques - Details
complex component parts of equipment from existing drawings, actual parts
or information received from the client - Revises
existing designs as per request from clients or Supervisor and updates all
applicable drawings - Carries
out basic engineering design related calculations in accordance with
engineering codes of practice, safety and environmental standards on
request from clients or the Supervisor - Examines
each design proposal from external sources for adherence to engineering
specifications and standards and recommends improvements where necessary - Maintains
and develops the drawing office technology and ensures optimum utilization
thereof e.g. software upgrading - Attends
to all administrative functions, taking cognizance of the need to create a
clear audit trail, by carrying out and observing all associated
administrative procedures, maintaining an information management system
and compiling reports and statistics as required - Maintains
the Drawing Office database and filing system by updating revised drawings
and archiving plans as appropriate, circulating all revisions of
plans/drawings to the relevant Line Managers concerned, receiving, sorting
and capturing all drawings on the database or filing them as appropriate
and retrieving plans on request - Attends
to all project work by assisting the supervisor in setting up project
plans taking cognizance of spares, tools, labour and other resource
requirement and carrying out project related work according to set
standards, plans and scheduled targets - Adheres
to all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures in area of
responsibility
