Vacancy for the post
of 5 Healing Mentors to mentor Peace Agents among Spaces for Peace in 14
districts.

1.  
 Background

Never Again Rwanda (NAR) is a human r
ights and peace building organization that
was founded in response to the 1994 genocide perpetrated against Tutsis. Guided
by a vision of a nation where citizens are agents of positive change and work
together towards sustainable peace and development, NAR aims to empower
Rwandans with opportunities to become active citizens through peace building
and development. NAR places a particular emphasis on the youth as the future of
a peaceful society. With nearly 13 years of experience, NAR is one of the
leading national peace building organizations in Rwanda.

Never Again Rwanda
in collaboration with InterPeace are implementing a four-year program, Societal
Healing and Participatory Governance Program for peace 2015-2018 whose goal is
to transform community members and youth into agents of change who own
mediation and dialogue as a strategy to foster reconciliation.
The program aims to facilitate diverse community members to discuss past
sensitive, present and emerging issues through dialogue.

2.  
 Implementation Phase of Societal Healing

The implementation of the Societal Healing program targets 15 groups from
diverse backgrounds of Rwandan community. The first phase started in November
2015 with 8 groups in Huye district (Gishamvu sector) Gisagara (Kibirizi)
Muhanga ( Nyamabuye sector) Kigali district ( Nyarugenege and Gasobo districts,
Ngoma (Univeristy of Kibungo)  and  Gicumbi ( Inyange Secondry
school). These groups are made of schooling, non-schooling youth and adult
members from community.

Each group is made
of 30 participants (male and female participants from diverse backgrounds) and
convenes once a month through a psycho- social group facilitated by trained
peace Agents. These spaces for peace discuss on sensitive psychological wounds,
wounding events, types of wounds in Rwandan context and how they can overcome
those wounds/trauma and start a process of healing and reconciliation through
dialogue.  

Lessons from
implementation of the first 8 groups have revealed that majority of group members
are psychologically wounded and need to be supported by professional counselors
who have skills in facilitating psychosocial groups and are able to support
groups in emotional management and development of trauma healing strategies

Additional 7 groups
are to be formed in 7 districts Karongi  ( Rubengera Sector), Ngoma
district ( Rukumberi) Nyagatare district ( Nyagatare Sector)  Musanze
district ( Muhoza sector) Rubavu (Gisenyi Adventist Secondary School) and
Rulindo district ( Itumba College).

Therefore NAR is in
the process to recruit 5 professional counselors to facilitate these
psychosocial groups in 15 districts across the Country.

3.  
 Objective.

The main objective
of recruitment of professional counselors is to mentor peace Agents in in
psychosocial support strategies and facilitation of psychologically wounded
groups. At the end of the program peace Agents should have skills in
facilitation of psychosocial groups, mediation, use of dialogue, trauma
resilience and peace building skills and critical thinking skills.

4.  
 Recipient.

The primary
recipient of mentorship of counselors is peace Agents, youth groups and
community groups involved in spaces for peace.

5.  
 Scope

•  
 Healing Mentors will be required to read the facilitation guide, interpret
it and support Peace Agents to understand it and use it for facilitation during
peace dialogues and spaces for peace.
•    Organize pre-dialogues meetings with Peace Agents to
reflect on the facilitation guide and prepare Peace Agents to conduct peace
dialogues. In the process Mentors will address questions, concerns raised by
Peace Agents on the facilitation guide and provide guidance.
•    Attend peace dialogues and spaces for peace to observe how
Peace Agents conduct dialogues, and listen to issues coming from participants
in light of the dialogue, document those issues and reflect on those issues
with NAR staff and Peace Agents at the end of the peace dialogues and spaces
for peace.
•    Conduct feedback meetings with Peace Agents at the end of the
dialogue to advise Peace Agents for improvement.
•    Hold technical meetings with the Peacebuilding team to
brief them on facilitated dialogues and emerging issues that arose during the
peace dialogues and spaces for peace.
•    Support Peace Agents in addressing emotion management of
participants in case participants demonstrate emotional instability during
dialogues.
•    Participate in supervision meetings with NAR staff on a
bi-monthly basis.
•    Work closely with Peace Agents to identify health services
and other organizations engaged in healing for partnership and referral
services in the areas of operation.
•    Consultants will closely work with Peace Agents and the
Peacebuilding team in raising awareness on Societal Healing program for
ownership among local leadership. 
•    In instances where the Peacebuilding team has not been
involved in the space, Mentors will provide immediate feedback to the
Peacebuilding coordinator on key issues, observations and challenges that were
observed in the Peace dialogues or spaces for peace.
•    Support NAR peace building team in development of trauma
informed strategies and tools to support Peace Agents and group members in
trauma healing.

6.  
 Output/Deliverables

•     Monthly reports on successes, challenges and
recommendations on peace dialogues and spaces for peace.

7.  
 Reporting

The Mentors will report directly to Peace building Program Coordinator and work
closely with peace building program officers and Peace Agents.
 

8.  
 Time frame

          Healing mentors will
sign a contract of 1 year with possibility of renewal

9.  
 Qualifications and experience

•    At least 3 years of working experience in supporting
healing and psychosocial groups in recognized institutions.
•    Familiar to Rwanda’s post genocide peace and reconciliation
initiatives.
•    Knowledge and demonstrated capacity to facilitate wounded
groups
•    Demonstrate creativity in adapting and designing new
approaches to facilitate Healing spaces
•    Experience of working in rural communities with frequent
travels
•    Excellent writing and analytical skills.
•    Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English is an added advantage
•   A Bachelors or equivalent in counseling, psychology, trauma
healing, Clinical psychology, peace building, co-existence, conflict
transformation or other related field is advantageous.
•    Ability to meet deadlines is a must.
•    Living in the selected sectors is an added advantage
