Economic commission for Africa (ECA)

ECA
is a regional organ of the United Nations organization (UNO) and it was
established in 1958 with headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The ECA is
divided into five sub- regions
1.     
West African Sub- region

2.     
North African Sub-region
3.     
Central Africa Sub-region
4.     
East Africa Sub-region
5.     
South Africa Sub-region
Functions
of ECA
Ø  To aid in the acceleration of economic integration
of the five sub region
Ø  To promote the social and economic development of
Africa as a whole
Ø  To contribute to the training of economic manpower
that will enhance economic development of Africa
Ø  To promote co operation and development in social
and cultural matters for the purpose of raising the standard of living of the
people in Africa
Ø  To provide technical assistance such as technical
and statistical data for economic planning and implementation of project in
Africa
Ø  To increase and maintain economic stability and
foster closer relations among member nations
Contribution
of ECA to Business in Nigeria
Ø  Nigeria has been able to forge economic and social
link between her and other member nations on a sub regional bases
Ø  ECA has provided technical assistance in the areas
of making available technical and statistical data for economic planning and
implementation of projects
Ø  ECA has improved the volume of Nigerian
international trade because of the abolition of quantitative and administrative
restrictions among the member nations
