Organization
and Overall Purpose:
The
Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a
world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization
that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical
support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of
malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated
700 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and
children.
GAIN
fights malnutrition through innovative and sustainable models that increase
access to affordable nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to
malnutrition.
The
GAIN Marketplace for Nutritious Foods (‘Marketplace’) is knowledge, networking
and financing platform for local enterprises to improve the market availability
of nutritious foods. It facilitates partnerships and knowledge sharing across
the agriculture value chain and catalyzes innovations to improve the diets of
ordinary Rwandans.
Purpose:
The
Project Manager will implement the Marketplace for Nutritious Foods project in
Rwanda and lead GAIN’s relationships in country with donors, government
agencies, and other stakeholders. The Project Manager will oversee
project-related financial, administrative, and human resource issues.
Responsibilities:
Project Management
  • Implement
    and oversee the implementation of the project’s main activities—Innovation
    Accelerator, Community of Practice, Technical Advisory Committee meetings,
    etc.
  • Fulfill
    primary project management, reporting technical and financial
    documentation responsibilities for all GAIN, donor and Government of
    Rwanda requirements.
  • Act
    as point of contact between GAIN and Marketplace Grantees
    (agribusinesses).
  • Lead
    GAIN’s relationship with USAID and other donors
  • Create
    Terms of Reference, Granting Agreements, Terms Sheets, in accordance with
    GAIN requirements.
  • Ensure
    quality of business planning and technical assistance delivered to
    Marketplace grantees.
  • Prepare
    documents for and liaise with the Marketplace Investment Committee (MIC).
  • Effectively
    manage performance of sub-contractors and technical consultants.
  • Manage
    and Report on the program progress, budget, and management of the funds,
    with support from direct supervisor.
  • Ensure
    project meets targets in terms of impact and resource management.
  • Visits
    the field regularly to ensure that project progress is on track and risk
    mitigation plan is up to date.
  • Coordinate
    M&E Activities with MLR team

    in agriculture or business, with agribusiness experience preferred

    ability to manage donor-funded development projects.

    ability to manage donor relations, particularly with USAID

  • Strong
    inter-personal skills and the ability to work with agribusiness managers
    from a variety of
backgrounds
(Rwandan and international).
  • Strong
    verbal and written communication skills

    and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment, expert problem
    solving, and creativity.
  • Computer
    literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills.

    and training of staff.
  • Ability
    to work independently and with minimal supervision
Experience:
  • Solid
    professional experience particularly in project management
  • Demonstrated
    success in building and managing multi-disciplinary teams in challenging
    program environments
  • Proven
    business acumen
  • Strong
    understanding of agribusiness in Rwanda
  • Experience
    of delivering donor-funded programs highly desirable
  • Strong
    background working with and reporting to key donors such as USAID
  • Experience
    in financial, administrative, and human resource management for a small
    office
  • Experience
    in a global, multicultural organization is highly desirable
  • Experience
    working in a public/private partnership environment highly desirable
  • Private
    Sector experience highly desirable
Education:
  • A
    BA in business administration, agricultural economics, or a suitable
    equivalent is required
Other
Requirements:
  • Fluent
    written and verbal English, French, and Kinyarwanda
  • A
    willingness and ability to travel in rural Rwanda
  • Right
    to work in Rwanda
