The
International Potato Center (CIP), is a not-for-profit international
agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on
genetic resources of potato, sweetpotato, and other Andean roots and tubers,
crop genetic enhancement and improvement, integrated crop management and

The
Position:

CIP is seeking to recruit two Agronomists/Sweetpotato Seed Specialists to be
based in the Northern (Musanze) and Southern (Muhanga) districts in Rwanda. The
Sweetpotato Agronomist/Seed Specialist will work with partners to strengthen
Sweetpotato seed systems and Sweetpotato agronomic practices.
The
Agronomists/Seed Specialists will assist with Sweetpotato seed production in
the districts by specialized vine producers and other partners’ production. The
positions will be under the supervision of the CIP Agronomist and Project
Manager. CIP in Rwanda is hosted by the International Centre for Tropical
Agriculture (CIAT) https://ciat.cgiar.org
Key
responsibilities will include:

·    Contribute to planning, designing and implementing of vine
production that will contribute to improved production of orange fleshed
Sweetpotato (OFSP).
·    Collaborate with public, Implementing partners, and private
multipliers to assure timely production of quality OFSP planting materials.
·    Participate in designing and implementation of
demonstration plots.
·    Collaborate with OFSP stakeholders in designing approaches
of production and dissemination of OFSP planting materials.
·    Assist in training Implementing partners, government staff,
and other partners on Sweetpotato seed multiplication and appropriate
Sweetpotato agronomic practices
·    Document successes, constraints and lessons learnt in
scaling up good agronomic practices in OFSP seed systems and root production.
·    Collect, analyze and report data periodically as demanded
by the project.
·    Actively participate in farmer organization with an aim of
integrating OFSP into the formal market.
·    Contribute to periodic technical reports as demanded by the
project.
·    Participate in capacity building of private and private
sector extension staff.
·    Serve as the project liaison person for diverse
implementing partners
·    Any other duties falling within the scope of your training,
as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements:
·    Masters’ degree or equivalent in Agricultural Plant
Sciences
·    Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a related
position in an international research or development organization
·    Very strong skills in statistical analysis, sampling
methodology, and data collection and management
·    Knowledge of improvement in clonally propagated crop
systems
·    Hard working team member capable of working with diverse partners
to deliver results on time
·    Organized, innovative, and clear thinking individual able
to communicate well orally and verbally
·    Eager to learn new skills and to contribute to program and
team success
·    Competent driver with current valid driving license class
and B
·    Ability to work independently and to take initiative when
sorting out problem issues.
·    Knowledge of Kinyarwanda is highly desirable
·    Very strong English oral and written communication skills
required
·    Willingness to spend considerable time working under field
conditions in rural Rwanda
Terms
of offer:

These are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions. Employment contracts will
be for a two year term (with a three months’ probation period) with the
possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory performance and availability of
