activities in TANGIRANEZA IV Project, WRR wishes to recruit a qualified and

General
Function:
The
Nutrition officer will act as the health facility focal point for
implementation of Home Fortification; MOH 1,000 Days Strategy; modified care
groups and Nutrition weeks through the MOH Community Based Nutrition Program
in Nyamagabe District.  During the 9 months project, the Nutrition
Officer will work closely with the other Nutrition Officer in the project,
the Nyamagabe sector and district level DPEM Committee, Hospital and Health
Center, Community Health Workers and the community leaders at the various
sectors, cells and village levels. The project aims for widespread adoption
of home fortification, improving feeding practices during the first 1,000
days and increasing the capacity of DPEM and health facility staff, CHWs and
community leaders to implement/promote nutrition interventions.
Specific
Job Duties:
  1. Support
    both districts in providing Health Center support to conduct integrated
    formative supervision to supervise CHWs on MNP distribution and BCC at
    community level.
  2. Support
    CHWs and modified CGs in conducting household visits to monitor
    integrated community health activities including MNP use at HH
    level       
  3. Support
    distribution of MNPs to HCs from District Hospitals.
  4. Support
    districts to conduct quarterly follow-up and coordination meetings with
    HC staff on MNP distribution, use, BCC activities and MCG follow up (all
    integrated nutrition interventions
  5. Support
    the districts to conduct radio program and live talk shows through
    community radio station on MNP and 1,000 days radio messages including
    male involvement promotion messages. 
  6. Support
    district in mobilizing semi-annual meetings with religious leaders in
    faith community on BCC and dissemination of messages on 1000 Days and
    MNP in their congregations and communities.
  7. Support
    districts in coordinating and monitoring Care Group members to follow up
    on BCC, MNP, Hygiene activities through community meetings and home visits. 
  8. Provide
    Technical Support to the District and Village Nutrition Committees to
    conduct   Nutrition Week for pregnant women and lactating
    mothers with children under 2 years.
  9. Support
    Sector DPEM committees in conducting community dialogue at sector level
    to promote awareness, dialogue and engagement on integrated nutrition
    interventions and messages, especially male involvement in the health
    and nutrition of their children,  
  10. Support
    both District DPEM committees in organizing 1 School Nutrition promotion
    event around Africa Child Day  
  11. Support
    Districts in organizing school competitions on the 1,000 day campaign.
  12. Support
    social mobilization and 1000 days campaign billboard at district level
    as requested by districts,
  13. Support
    districts  to organize and conduct social mobilization with parents
    groups, women’s groups and in “Umugoroba w’ababyeyi” evening
    sessions towards mobilizing community members on the importance of
    maternal and child nutrition practices and 1,000 days campaign
  14.  Support
    district DPEM committee to quarterly conduct high quality analysis using
    DevInfo, and interpretation of results,
  15. Organize
    2-Day Annual DPEM review meeting with DPEM committee and district
    partners for planning and coordination on all nutrition interventions in
    district  
  16. Support
    district-level DPEM committee to conduct at least one quarterly field
    visit each of DPEM activities in the 2 districts
  17. Support
    sector-level committee members to conduct at least 2 field visits each
    of DPEM activities in the sectors of both districts,
  18. Provide
    the UNICEF  Health Program Manager with adequate monthly,
    quarterly, annual  and final nutritional reports and data focussing
    on major achievements, impact of the intervention, success stories ,
     resources utilized, children participated in the project,
    constraints and other relevant information
  19. Maintain
    excellent communication between the project, the District , Hospital and
    Health Centre and the Sector Leader
  20. Prepare
    and submit budget, monthly cash flow, and expense and material request
    forms for field activities to the Health Program Manager.
  21. Assist
    in the coordination and supervision of the implementation of monitoring
    and evaluation activities of the health centres and CHWs  
  22. Meet
    regularly with health centre staff trainers for supervision and Home
    visits at community level,
  23. Monitor
    the performance of health facility staff in supporting outreach and CHW
    support activities
  24. Carry
    out other activities related to the above duties assigned by and
    mutually agreed with the line manager
Knowledge,
Skills,
&
Abilities:
  • Bachelor
    Degree in Nutrition or Public Health or equivalent related degree
  • Ability
    to maintain performance expectations in conditions with limited
    resources.
  • Strong
    interpersonal skills are vital.
  • Strong
    capacity building and facilitation skills
  • Ability
    to work with minimum supervision, and to deal with problems/issues
    promptly and efficiently
  • Excellent
    written and spoken Kinyarwanda
  • Excellent
    written and spoken English
  • Competent
    in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Motorcycle
    driving permit is an advantage
Experience
Required:
  • 2
    years’ experience working with health programs, preferably in nutrition
  • Demonstrated
    experience in training and capacity building
  • Experience
    of working  in partnership with the government
  • Experience
    in coordinating  field activities
Physical
Demands:
  • Willingness
    to live and work in Nyamagabe and be ready to start immediately
