The Council for Malawi University of Science and
technology (MUST) in exercise of its statutory duties as provided in the
University’s Act No. 31 of 2012 is inviting interested and suitably qualified
distinguished academics with vast experience in University Curriculum
Development and Reform, teaching, Research and Administration/Management to
apply for the post of The Vice Chancellor

MUST is a new University, the 4th Public University established by the Govt of
Malawi in December 2012.  The University is situated in the S
outhern part
of Malawi in the beautiful highlands of Thyolo District about 27 kilometres
East of Blantyre City.

MUST has 4 schools: the Malawi Institute of Technology, the Ndata School of
Climate and Earth Sciences, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ndata
School of African Culture and Heritage.  Through these schools, the
University is offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various
disciplines.  The University has capacity to enrol over 5000
students

The Vice Chancellor shall in accordance with Section 14 of the Act establishing
the University the principal academic and administrative officer of the
University an d have such powers and perform such functions as may from time to
time be prescribed by the enabling Act, the Statutes and the Council

Be responsible for the overall management of the University, including the
development and implementation of strategic plans, policies, teaching and
research programmes, budget management,

Impeccable and honest character, Proven skills in strategic leadership, Have
proven skills in leadership and development and be capable of making the
University a leading institution of higher education in sciences and technology
with first class research and teaching outputs, Have excellent analytical,
problem solving, decision making, team building, organisational, interpersonal
including information and Communication Technology 9ICT) skills, Have
demonstrable experience in financial management, fundraising and resource
mobilisation, Results oriented with high levels of personal motivation and
resilience and capable of taking ownership of major development programmes and
projects of the University and drive them to their successful completion, A
thorough understanding of the core functions of the University, familiar with
the challenges currently facing universities and awareness of global trends in
higher education, Able to foster a culture of
innovation, creativity and openness, which values every individual’s
contribution while ensuring productivity and growth, Capable of sustaining good
and harmonious working relationships among University staff members and
students on one hand and between the University and its stakeholders on the
hand, A leader with considerable administrative/managerial experience at senior
University Management level, A distinguished Professor in any field of study, A
renowned academic with over 5 yrs of teaching (at undergraduate and
post-graduate levels) and research experience, proven record of supervising
postgraduate students and substantial scholarly achievement demonstrated by research
outputs in the form of publications in refereed books and journals
