play a leading role in the development of our regional capacity building
function within the East and Southern Africa region and contribute to the
exceptional work we are delivering to transform the lives of vulnerable
children and their families.
Reporting to the Head of Programmes Development, this role will lead on
the development of capacity of HHC national partners in the region by providing
high quality information, training and developmental support.
As Regional Capacity Building Manager, the successful candidate will
have an excellent understanding and experience of capacity building,
development and delivery of training materials and the child protection/child
rights sector. This role will require an ability to travel extensively
throughout the East and Southern Africa region. Fluent in English and with a
good understanding of a second language relevant to the region, the successful
candidate will have a solid understanding of the UN Guidelines of the United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Utilising excellent
spoken and written English, the successful candidate will have strong
communication skills and be confident in their ability to present to a wide
range of internal and external stakeholders. Strong project co-ordination
skills, writing and editing skills and an ability to ensure all documents and
training materials are designed and delivered to HHC standards are required.
The successful candidate will have an ability to collect, analyse and interpret
data into accurate and relevant reports. An ability to develop and sustain good
working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is also
essential.
ROLE PURPOSE AND ROLE DIMENSION
  • To support the
    identification of suitable national partners and develop their capacity to
    deliver Deinstitutionalization (DI),
  • Alternative Family
    Care (AFC) and Child Protection Reform (CPR) to HHC’s international
    standards.
  • To support the
    documentation of good practice in DI, AFC and CPR across all partners and
    HHC programmes within the ESA region.
  • To contribute to the
    development of cross-programme initiatives including funding bids and
    proposals
Key External Contacts:
  • HHC’s national
    partners in identified countries in the ESA region. Other national and
    international NGOs as directed.

Head of Programme Development; Director of Programmes& Global
Advocacy; Regional Operations Director ESA; Head of Programmes Information;
Head of Advocacy; Child Protection Manager; Monitoring, Evaluation &

Financial Dimensions:
This role does not have budget management responsibilities but as with
all HHC roles, there is a responsibility to work within the agreed budget
limits and financial processes of the organisation.

    documentation of good practice irt DI, AFC and CPR.
Other Considerations:
Some out of office hours work will be required from time-to-time (for
example, attending national, regional and international events) regular
regional and international travel
Key Accountabilities
  • Assist the Head of
    Programme Development to build a regional network of partners trained and
    committed to child protection reform.
  • Support the
    documentation of good practice in DI, AFC and CPR across the region.
  • Contribute to the
    development of the evidence base for HHC’s international standards for DI,
    AFC and CPR across the region with national partners and HHC programmes
  • Contribute to the
    development of funding bids and proposals
Key Elements

    capacity building support to national partners in the region.

    identification and assessment of national NGO partners.
  • To identify the
    childcare reform training needs of partner organisations,
  • To design and deliver
    training in childcare reform to suit national partners as appropriate and
    in line with HHC’s Theory of Change.
  • To develop a partner
    evaluation process.
  • To work with
    colleagues to develop and implement systems for measuring, monitoring and
    evaluating the effectiveness of capacity building approaches.
  • To support the Head of
    Advocacy in the coordination of the regional network advocating for and
    demonstrating child protection reform.
  • To assist in building
    core professional standards across HNC regional programmes
  • To develop and deliver
    training that will ensure quality assurance and ongoing learning across
    the programmes in the region.
  • To develop and share a
    portfolio of good practice models from HHC’s experience of childcare
    reform.
  • To work
    collaboratively with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting Manager
    (Intl) to document outcomes across programmes and projects focused on DI,
    AFC and CPR.
  • To support the
    evaluation of DI, AFC, CPR capacity building initiatives and document key
    learning.
  • To ensure the
    documentation and evidence is included in the training and capacity
    building materials.
  • To provide information
    & support in the development of cross-programmes funding bids and
    proposals.
