Job Description
One Acre Fund relies on its Agriculture Innovation team to find the most
impactful agricultural practices and products for Rwandan farmers. Every season
we run both station and farmer trials to inform our extension decisions. Great
Innovation comes from excellent background research, a true understanding of
our client base, and excellent trial implementation. As we grow our
organization and research portfolio, we are looking to improve the external
research we conduct along with the implementation and breadth of our field
trials.
The Agriculture Associate will initially be based in Western
Rwanda. S/he
will be responsible for a subset of the following:
- Background Research
- Conduct research and liaise with other
agriculture institutions in Rwanda to inform trial questions. - Past research examples have included yield gap
analysis for Rwanda’s staple crops, soil improvement products, and
market crop analysis. - Agriculture Station Management
- Improve Agriculture research station protocols
and develop a toolkit to be used in launching additional research
stations across Rwanda’s Agro-ecological zones. - Manage Western Rwanda Ag. Station with local
staff. - Launch 2-3 new Ag. Stations for the coming
season. - Prioritize research questions based on potential
farmer impact and develop trial plans. - Analyze data and compile trial reports.
- Farmer Field Trial Management
- Manage a team of 40 staff running farmer trials
with 2,000 farmers each season on 25 different research questions. - Improve farmer trial protocols.

- Agriculture Education
- Review our agriculture trainings that are
disseminated to 100,000+ farmers per year. - Develop new training materials based on research
and trials.

Qualifications
We are seeking 2 exceptional professional(s) with 2 – 5+ years of work
experience and a demonstrated passion for agricultural development. Candidates
who fit the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Agricultural research and/or farming experience.
- Strong work experiences. Examples include a
demanding professional work experience, or successful entrepreneurial
experience (e.g. leading a conference, starting a business, solid Peace
Corps accomplishments). - Leadership experience at work, or outside of
work. - Top-performing undergraduate background,
preferably in an Agriculture related field like soil science, agronomy, or
horticulture (include GPA and test scores on your resume). - Masters of Science in an agriculture related
field - Strong data analysis skills including Excel and
Stata / R. - Humility. We are looking for passionate
professionals who combine strong leadership skills with good humor,
patience, and a humble approach to service to join our growing family of
leaders. - A willingness to commit to living in rural areas
of East Africa for at least two years – this is a long-term, career-track
role. The ideal candidate will have at least one year demonstrated
experience working in the developing world, although this is not a strict
requirement. - Ability to cook / laugh – desirable.
- Language: English required. French preferred.
