io Ministry of
Environment and Climate Change to provide your expertise and
analytical skills in the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network
program.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• scientifically analyze and interpret physical hydrogeological,
hydro-geochemical, hydrological and groundwater isotope data, prepare
hydrogeological reports and briefing materials, present scientific
findings at meetings internal and external to the ministry
• participate in the maintenance and operation of the PGMN monitoring
network as part of the ministry’s team and interact with the
Conservation Authorities who are the PGMN program partners
• carry out trend and correlation analyses on groundwater level and
chemistry data and use isotope data to characterize groundwater and
assist in identifying potential sources of contamination
• design and carry out groundwater monitoring studies, establish and
maintain field monitoring equipment and collect groundwater samples
when/where necessary
• provide hydrogeological and hydro-geochemical expertise on
groundwater conditions and on groundwater issues as they arise

Location: 125 Resources Road, Etobicoke, Ontario

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:
• a valid full membership under the Association of Professional
Geoscientists of Ontario
• a university master’s of science degree (minimum) with special
courses in the field of physical hydrogeology and hydro-geochemistry
• the ability to travel within the region occasionally to conduct
field assignments which may, from time-to-time, involve province-wide
travel

Scientific Knowledge and Analytical Skills:
• you have demonstrated knowledge of and are able to apply the
theories, principles and practices of physical hydrogeology,
hydro-geochemistry, contaminant hydrogeology and hydrology
• you have demonstrated knowledge of how groundwater isotope data can
be used to characterize groundwater and provide insight into potential
sources of contamination
• you have demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to apply
analytical techniques in carrying out scientific analyses and
interpretation of groundwater level and chemistry data and you
understand the principles associated with the evolution of groundwater
chemistry along its flow path
• you have demonstrated knowledge of the geology of Ontario and the
typical characteristics of aquifers in Ontario
• you have demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to apply
analytical skills in designing groundwater monitoring plans,
installing and operating groundwater field monitoring equipment and
groundwater sample collection and handling protocols/procedures
• you are knowledgeable of groundwater monitoring well design,
groundwater flow principles, pump test design and analyses and ambient
groundwater level patterns in Ontario

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
• you have demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication
skills and are experienced in preparing and presenting scientific
reports and in communicating complex scientific concepts to
scientific, technical and non-technical audiences
• you are a team player and work easily and effectively with others
and with scientific and non-scientific team members, program partners
and management

Computer Skills:
• you have proficiency with groundwater software applications and
other software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets,
Geographic Information Systems and databases

Organizational and Project Management Skills:
• you have good organizational, coordination and project management skills

Salary range: $1,474.12 — $1,941.90 per week
