The Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre (GRDC) is located in the Dundas
Valley Conservation Area. We are looking for an individual
enthusiastic about the Niagara Escarpme
nt World Biosphere, its
preservation and interpretation to the public.
This position is part-time seasonal 3 days per week (Saturday, Sunday,
and one day through the week). Weekend shifts will be spent at the
Centre in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area or at an offsite
outreach venue. Weekday shifts will be spent at an offsite location.
Duties include:
• Set up of artwork on Saturday mornings,
• Set up of display materials Saturday mornings,
• Working with on-duty volunteers,
• Stocking of printed materials,
• Engaging the public in conversation about the centre, its programs
and resources,
• Engaging the public in conversation about the Niagara Escarpment
World Biosphere,
• Sales of centre items,
• Encouraging the public to support the organization (financially or
otherwise),
• Attend outreach events during the week including outreach planning
and scheduling.
Job requirements:
• Successful candidate must have own transportation,
• Public speaking/public engagement skills or experience an asset,
• Knowledge of geology an asset,
• Knowledge of ecology/environment an asset,
• Knowledge of culture/history specific to the Niagara Escarpment an asset,
• Knowledge of UNESCO programs an asset,
• Self-starter, ability to plan, schedule and deliver outreach,
• Assist with annual fundraiser,
• Background check required.
Successful candidates must be available for interview on Saturday May
9, 2015 at the Discovery Centre.
