Research has more than seventy cutting edge research laboratories and
comprehensive scientific support services, primarily based in Parkville,
Melbourne.
An opportunity exists for a postdoctoral scientist with statistical skills and
strong bioinformatics/computational biology skills to join the Bioinformatics
Division. The position is in the Speed Lab at The Walter and
Eliza Hall
Institute of Medical Research (WEHI).
The Speed Lab works on a variety of exciting projects. They collaborate closely
with clinicians and biologists generating next-generation sequence (NGS) data,
and these collaborations motivate development of new statistical and
bioinformatics methods.
The role involves performing analyses under supervision in a range of
interesting projects related to epigenetics (methylation, chromatin remodeling)
and transcriptional regulation. The position will also involve developing,
documenting and maintaining NGS analysis pipelines and other software tools.
Successful applicants should have the following attributes:
• PhD in statistics, computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics,
or a related field.
• Familiarity with genome databases and statistical analysis methods.
• Expertise with NGS data analysis.
• Computational skills including the use of the R programming language.
• Proficiency with the Linux/Unix Operating System
• Experience with High Performance Compute Clusters
• Strong interest in epigenetics and transcriptional regulation
Strong Communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are
essential.
The position will be for two years. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and
experience. Up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options
are available.
