of Science, Health & Engineering
The
College of Science, Health and Engineering comprises 9 schools and 16
departments as well as 7 Centres and Institutes across research areas including
public health, autism and molecular sciences as well as climate and technology
based centres. The College offers a range of general and specialist
undergraduate and postgraduate degrees designed to be rigorous and attuned to
meeting student needs, preparing them to work in changing industry
environments.
The
Position
This
position is located within the discipline of Microbiology in the new,
multidisciplinary Department of Physiology, Anatomy& Microbiology, in the
School of Life Sciences at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. The position will
include responsibility for the virology sections of the undergraduate
Microbiology subjects taught by the Department and for training of Honours and
Higher Degree Research (HDR) students in molecular virology.
In
this Role
You
will conduct and lead innovative research and obtain research funding,
supervise research students in the Microbiology Honours and HDR programmes, and
contribute to knowledge and knowledge transfer, at nationally and
internationally significant levels. You will maintain professional practice
skills/knowledge and expertise in microbiology and molecular virology at
internationally recognised levels. You will contribute to the design,
coordination and teaching of microbiology in subjects and courses which provide
a high quality learning experience that engages undergraduate, honours and
postgraduate students.
The
candidate
The
successful candidate will possess the following:
  • PhD
    and suitable post-doctoral experience with an excellent national and
    international standing in molecular virology (Level C).
  • PhD
    and suitable post-doctoral experience with an excellent national and
    international standing in molecular virology (Level B).
  • An
    outstanding record of research achievement and publications.
  • Proven
    ability to mentor and supervise undergraduate, honours and postgraduate
    research students.
  • Effectiveness
    in curriculum development and excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent
    oral and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to
    interact effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Demonstrated
    ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Capacity
    to provide leadership in research and teaching.
