United
Way of Calgary and Area is looking for a full-time Media & Communications
Advisor to join the Marketing. Media.Communications team within United Way of
Calgary and Area. Reporting to the Manager of Brand Activation & Media, the
role of the Media & Communications Advisor is to develop and execute media
strategies, ensuring they align with departmental, organizational and industry
standards and best practices.

Duties &
Responsibilities

  • Develop
    and execute media relations strategy
  • Prepare
    media releases and advisories
  • Manage
    and cultivate relationships with local media
  • Contribute
    to Editorial Calendar and develop content for Calgary Social Voice
  • Develop
    and execute media training sessions for staff and external partners
  • Act as
    an on-call media contact for the organization (sharing this responsibility
    with the Acting Manager of Brand Activation & Media) — respond to
    interview requests from media, identifying best spokespeople to be
    interviewed
  • Develop
    key messages and sound bites for media interviews
  • Media
    monitoring, measurement and reporting
  • Create
    a digital repository of photos and videos

Experience
and Skills

  • A
    degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related
    discipline
  • A
    leader with more than three years of experience in media (in journalism or
    public relations)
  • Proven
    experience in media and public relations
  • Proven
    ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong
    writing and storytelling abilities
  • Excellent
    relationships with local media
  • Familiarity
    with the not-for-profit sector
  • IABC
    accreditation is an asset
  • People
    and project management skills
  • Strong
    proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) and
    SharePoint 2010/2013
