Muskoka Conservancy
is a growing Land Trust based out of Bracebridge Ontario. We protect 36
properties throughout the Muskoka watershed. We also provide a number of
stewardship and educational programs within our community to support private
landowners in their efforts to care for their land. Working as part of a team,
the Stewardship and Monitoring Technician will support the implementation of
the Stewardship and Property Monitoring programs for Muskoka Conservancy. This
position will require a responsible and efficient person who will work closely
with the Property Monitoring and Stewardship Coordinator and a variety of
volunteers in order to deliver these programs. There is a possibility for
extension of this contract based on funding and job performance. This position
reports to the Executive Director.
General
Duties (include but not limited to):
- Deliver
the Shoreline Stewardship program and the Healthy Trees program, currently
funded through the Ontario Trillium Foundation - Provide
technical advice to property owners regarding shoreline habitat and tree
health - Host
and deliver educational workshops on various stewardship issues - Support
the development and delivery of the Forest Festival and Working Around
Water Symposium - Work
with the Stewardship Committee to implement stewardship and education
programs including Envirothon, Nature Quests and others - Report
writing and file management including completion of funding reports and
landowner visit reports - Identify
new stewardship programs and project opportunities to support the
strategic plan - Conduct
property monitoring with the assistance of volunteers - Complete
field documentation reports and checklists for submission to the Property
Monitoring and Volunteer Coordinator - Event
support - Assist
with the completion of funding applications - Assist
with the implementation of the communications plan - Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post
secondary education, or currently enrolled in, environmental studies,
ecology, forestry, ecosystems management, or other related program - Knowledge
and experience working with property owners on stewardship projects - Ability
to work effectively and courteously with volunteers and the public - Strong
public speaking skills - Strong
organizational and file management skills - An
understanding of health and safety in office and field environments - Orienteering
and GPS skills - Identification
skills related to flora and fauna typical in the Muskoka region - Field
note taking and documentation skills - Strong
interpersonal and communication skills - Creative
thinking - A valid
drivers’ licence and access to a vehicle
