The Hamilton
Conservation Authority (HCA) is currently seeking an Aquatic Resources
Technologist for a 14-week position during the summer of 2015.
TASKS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform fisheries
and benthic i
nvertebrate assessments in HCA watercourses
2. Assist in fish
habitat rehabilitation projects
3. Assist in
maintaining fisheries and benthic database, writing reports.
4. Assist ecologist
in supervising fisheries crew
5. Other duties as
assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should be:
Eligible
for Service Canada’s “Canada Summer Jobs” program
(aged 15 to 30 years
who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next
school year)
Student
in fisheries or ecology-related subjects
Knowledge
of and experience with fisheries/benthic monitoring protocols (OSAP/OBBN)
Certified
for electrofishing in Ontario
Received
OBBN certification
Able
to identify southern Ontario stream fishes including cyprinids
Able
to identify benthic invertebrate to family level
Able
to work as a team member and with adult volunteers
Valid
Ontario driver’s license and current first aid/CPR certification
Transportation
to HCA office

Experience with supervising others
SALARY AND
TERM: This position will pay $12.00per hour for a 37.5 hour workweek for
14 weeks. Start date is May 19th, 2015.
