The
Manager of Communications is res

ponsible for providing leadership for the Grand
River Conservation Authority (GRCA) communication and marketing program. As a
member of the management team, the manager will work closely with program staff
and colleagues to foster an accurate image of the GRCA and its programs. The
manager serves a key role in communicating with the public through the media
during flood emergencies and other events.
The Communications Department is responsible for advancing the work of the GRCA
and the Lake Erie Source Protection Committee (SPC). The Manager will work with
the Executive Director of the Grand River Conservation Foundation to assist
with its communication programs. The Manager reports within the office the
Chief Administrative Officer, and is designated as the official spokesperson
for the GRCA.

Specific
Accountabilities
  1. Develop
    and execute communication initiatives and provide support for marketing
    activities including media relations, advertising and promotion of
    programs, and social media activities.
  2. Working
    with flood operations staff, co-ordinate media releases, and respond to
    inquiries during flood events and other emergencies.
  3. Manage
    the GRCA and Source Protection websites and social media channels.
  4. Manages
    and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Communications department
    and staff.
  5. Provide
    support to the management team and technical staff in preparing priority
    communications initiatives.
  6. Coach
    and assist other designated staff persons for interaction with the media.
  7. Undertake
    issues management, working with members of the senior management team when
    communication issues have been identified.
  8. Write
    or approve all media releases
Qualifications:
Technical
Requirements
  1. University
    degree in the area of journalism, English, professional writing,
    communications or related area and at least ten years’ experience in a
    senior communications role.
  2. Highly
    developed communications skills including superior speaking, writing and
    editing abilities.
  3. Working
    knowledge and experience with social media in targeted, strategic
    communication programs.
  4. Demonstrated
    ability to design and coordinate communications programs and services.
  5. Proven
    ability to manage complex relationships and maintain key contacts at all
    levels of government, professional bodies and other organizations.
  6. Excellent
    judgment and political acuity to manage contentious issues and resolve
    concerns effectively and tactfully.
  7. Superior
    communications skills, both written and oral, with demonstrated ability
    complex information into clear and concise messages.
  8. Proven
    ability to work within a collaborative team environment with staff from a
    wide range of disciplines. Ability to synthesize and explain complex
    scientific, political, or technical content and concepts in easily
    understandable terms.
Additional
Specific Accountabilities:
9. Maintain a working relationship with the media, present the GRCA’s positions
on issues of public concern and respond to media inquiries.
10. Coordinate and oversee communications activities for the Lake Erie Region
Source Protection Committee (SPC).
Additional
Technical Requirements:
9. Detailed knowledge of GRCA program areas.
10.
Ability to successfully manage several projects at one time and meet tight
deadlines.

annual salary range for this position is Job Level L $95,864 to $116,623
