organization dedicated to providing an enriched and memorable camp
experience for children and youth who come from economically

Lead Wilderness Counsellors
Tim Horton Camp Whiteshell – Whiteshell, Manitoba

The Youth Leadership Program is a five-level Program that takes place
for 10-12 days per summer over five unforgettable years. Each level
challenges participants to develop leadership and life skills, gain
insight into their personal development and set goals for the future.
With the completion of each level of the Program, participants return
home with new-found self-confidence, skills to foster leadership in
their community and memories to last a lifetime.
Summary:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Lead Wilderness Counsellors lead
wilderness canoe trips for youth between the ages of 14-17.
Qualifications:
• 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role within a camp or outdoor
recreation/education environment
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certifications
• Life Guarding Certification: Bronze Cross
• Wilderness First Responder
• Bilingual (an asset)
• Swift Water Rescue Technician I (an asset)
• Experience planning and executing wilderness canoe trips
Key Responsibilities:
• Facilitate programs based on the THCF positive youth outcomes model,
local operating procedures
• Be a positive role model for young people, including teaching and
setting a good example in areas such as proper manners, goal setting,
accountability, respect for the environment, and respect for each
other
• Provide direction and guidance to participants such that celebrates
their differences and plans for their success
• Ensure participants are engaged and recognized for their
contributions and achievements
• Be accountable for risk assessment and implementation of Foundation
safety standards/protocols/procedures
• Ensure staff and participants are trained on equipment, use proper
protective equipment
• Assist in the packing and preparation for trips, and execution of
the curriculum associated with each level of the Youth Leadership
Program
• Provide learning opportunities for Wilderness Counsellors
• Complete paperwork throughout the summer in a timely and professional manner
The successful candidate will be required to complete a criminal
background check.
