Banff Heritage Tourism is seeking two motivated and enthusiastic
students in the role of “Heritage Ambassadors” in Banff and Lake
Louise this summer. Picture yourself spending the summer in the

learn about, and experience, th

e rich cultural heritage of the area.
This is a full time, seasonal position with a commitment from early
June until the end of August.

Heritage Ambassadors will run an outdoor visitor experience program
called the “Alpine Discovery Hub” in central Banff, along with a
series of guided historical walking tours in Lake Louise. Heritage
Ambassadors will also assist with coordinating weekly traditional
First Nations performances and various other duties.

Key tasks and responsibilities include:
• Facilitation (including setup and take down) of an interactive
program that will allow participants to learn about classic alpine
activities in Banff National Park
• Assisting participants with trying on costumes and props, posing for
photos in front of a backdrop, educating visitors about hiking trails
in the surrounding area, and various other parts of the program.
• Must wear a uniform provided by Banff Heritage Tourism
• Educating visitors of relevant activities and sites within the Park
• Develop and provide outdoor historical walking tours in Lake Louise
• Heritage Ambassadors will be required to monitor the programs by
keeping attendance figures, completing evaluations and providing
feedback on the program

Qualifications:
• Outgoing and interactive, comfortable in front of an audience
• Passion for the outdoors, history and heritage
• Experience in performing arts and/or public speaking
• Enjoy working outdoors through the summer
• Must be physically fit and able to stand/walk for long periods of
time and set up program equipment on a daily basis
• Excellent communication skills
• Must be able to work well with a team-mate and under minimal supervision
• Second language is an asset but not a prerequisite
• Must be between 15-30 years of age
• Must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous
academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in
the next academic year
• Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have official
refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection
Act (foreign students are not eligible)
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
• Must pass the Interpretive Guides Association “Apprentice
Interpreter” course as part of training (provided by BHT)

Compensation:
• $16.50 per hour.

Accommodation:

Accommodation in staff residence is available for $15.10 per person
per day in Banff.

Employment term:

June 10 – August 30, 5 days per week, 35 hours per week.
