Slow Train Farm ,Apprentice Jobs in Canada

Position:
Apprentice
Type: apprenticeship with tenting, food, stipend (see below)
Organization: Slow Train Farm http://www.slowtrainfarm.ca
Location: Williams Lake, south of Quesnel, British Columbia

We are seeking an apprentice for the 2015 growing season.

We are a small family farm, and hope to certify organic this year. We
grow over an acre of vegetable crops and staple foods for the family.
Our markets are the Quesnel and Williams Lake Farmers Markets and a
weekly CSA vegetable bin delivery in Williams Lake. We also provide
some produce for two local businesses and some private sales. Our time
is split between garden tasks and ongoing construction projects. This
year we hope to build a chicken coop and do some plastering work.

As our buildings are unfinished, we require interns to sleep in a
tent. Otherwise they share all of the facilities on the site and eat
with the family and crew on a daily basis. We use an outdoor
wood-fired bathtub, wood-fired sauna, compost-heated shower and
outdoor composting toilet. We use wood cook stoves, inside and out.
Our electricity is provided by solar and wind, which also provides us
with water from our well. We have two young children who are very
present in daily life. Ideally we like to host people who are
inspired, motivated and wanting to homestead or start a small farm
operation in the future.

We provide a stipend of $400 for this position. We also accept
applications for volunteers who may not be able to commit for a longer
period. Interns work along side us for the duration of the term, which
is May through October. Our family eats organic food, much of it from
our garden in the summer and fall. We eat no GMOs. We do eat meat, but
welcome vegetarians. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate vegan diets.
