Operations Planner
Regional Power Inc. (“Regional Power”) is a leading Canadian energy
developer, operator and manager of hydroelectric projects in Canada.
As a subsidiary of Manulife Financial, Regional Power has developed a
significant portfolio of renewable energy projects and has won
international recognition through being awarded the UNESCO Blue Planet
Prize, the 2013 BC Clean Energy Award for Environmental Stewardship
and Community Improvement, and in 2014 the community for which it
developed its Long Lake project was awarded the Community of the Year
Award for their outstanding support of the project.
Regional Power manages and operates 9 hydroelectric generating
facilities with a combined capacity of 88MW. Regional Power will
finish 2 additional projects with a combined capacity of 19 MW in
early 2016 that are currently being constructed on the White River in
northwestern Ontario. There are 5 operating assets in British Columbia
and 4 in Ontario all located throughout 3 time zones and whose plant
discharges reach the Atlantic, Pacific and Artic Oceans. Regional
Power has commissioned 3 hydro projects in the last 4 years and has
extensive operating experience since 1985.

The Role
As a member of Regional Power, you will report directly to Manager of
Operations and work closely with the Operations Supervisor(s) and the
Environmental Manager. You will be responsible for operating data
acquisition, processing and analyzing from operating facilities and
producing reports comparing datasets to benchmarks. You will utilize
your engineering skills for improving data gathering and processing
systems. You will work in a team environment and assist Operation
Supervisors with maintenance, inspections and upgrade works. You will
also work with Environmental Manager on permitting and development of
the new and existing projects. You will learn the operations of the
existing renewable power generation projects and participate in
commissioning of new projects and upgrade your skills to be a
productive member of the operating team.
The Responsibilities
Data Acquisition, Processing and Analysis of the existing power
generation facilities and preparation of reports
• Review and provide assessment on improving the existing systems and
processes related to operation of the existing power generation
facilities
• Research and Development on upgrades and cost saving solutions
• Assist Operation Supervisors with planned & unplanned maintenance
and upgrade projects
• Maintaining the project deficiencies lists
• Budget planning
• Generation optimization
• Provide technical and coordination support during acquisition
activities or other significant Development activities
• Provide troubleshooting support for the facilities and operators
• Manage and prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly operations
reporting and present them to Manager of Operations
• Participation in commissioning of new projects
Skills & Experience
College or University Degree in Industrial/electrical/civil/mechanical
field, or significant and relevant experience
• At least 1-2 years of experience supporting industrial systems and
similar activities, ideally with experience in hydroelectric or other
power facilities;
• Ability to multitask and manage concurrent activities
• Have the ability to manage and administer contract documentation,
permitting documents, and land related documents
• Posses a strong command of the English language, both written and
oral (French would be a definite asset)
• Proficient with AutoCAD
• Have a strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and MS Project
• Have good leadership skills and be able to provide professional
judgement while performing the role
