Position Summary:

Region 7 Sexual Assault Services
is a non-profit organization providing specialized sexual assault services to a
variety of locations including Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Elk Point, Lac
La Biche, Metis and First Nations communities. The Counsellor works within a
multi-disciplinary team to provide prevention, assessment, referral,
counselling and follow-up services to individuals

and family members affected
by sexual assault/abuse. The Counsellor ensures the program is progressively
changing with the needs of clients, trends in the community, and relevant
legislation. This position operates from an office location in Bonnyville,
providing outreach services to communities identified above as well as other
rural and/or remote locations. Region 7 Sexual Assault Services is a member of
the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services and, as such, accesses
professional support and training, participates in provincial initiatives and
benefits from the history and knowledge sharing of peers across the province.

Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual support for clients including intake,
    assessment, case planning and follow-up.
  • Prepare needs and risk assessments.
  • Assist with referrals to and accessing of appropriate
    community resources.
  • Support client towards self-efficacy and personal
    wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their
    resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with
    agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors, in
    order to supplement and enhance client service provision.

Qualifications:

  • MSW preferred; equivalent combination of education and
    experience may be considered
  • Current or eligible for professional registration
  • Previous counselling experience in sexual assault
    preferred
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ counselling experience in a related
    field
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Criminal records’ check and Child/Youth Intervention
    Check (current within past 3 months)
  • Proficient in MS Office, (Outlook, Word, Excel) and case
    management database
