Karma Co-operative, Toronto’s oldest member-owned co-operative grocery
store, is looking for a full time Produce Manager/Assistant General
Manager. Located in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood, Karma has been in
operation for over 40 years, and is a gathering place for community
around sustainably produce food.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the produce
department maintaining fresh, mostly organic and locally sourced
fruits and vegetables. The position will focus primarily on
maintaining and enhancing our award-winning produce department,
accompanied by selected duties in assisting the General Manager.
This position is central to the success of the co-op and has great
potential for a highly rewarding career experience. This is a one year
contract position with the option for renewal.
Position Summary
Produce Manager:
• Create and merchandise attractive produce displays.
• Receive, inspect, store and set prices of product.
• Input proper stock codes, product information and prices in POS system.
• Create attractive, accurate signage.
• Order appropriate quantities of product from distributors and farmers.
• Operate cash registers on occasion.
• Supervise clerks and co-op member labour
Assistant General Manager
• Perform General Manager duties when GM is unavailable including
details related to membership, operations and human resources
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience in retail produce operations.
• Knowledge of co-ops and member-owned organizations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Be self-motivated, detail-oriented and energetic.
• Knowledge of local farms and the products they grow.
• Experience serving the public
• Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds
• Management level experience in non-profit or cooperative settings
