Technical Advisor for Sustainable
Agriculture and Conservation – Imani Development – Liwonde National Park area
Oversee and improve farm
management and administration systems, Formalise organisational structures with
the stakeholders, Oversee implementation of the standard operating procedures
and best practices in aquaculture, Establish and manage an effective irrigation
schem
e for a smallholder farm, Train local farmers in sustainable agriculture
techniques, Design and implement a programme to improve soil quality, Develop a
crop rotation based on crop suitability according to local environmental
parameters, community interest, profitability and accessibility to local
markets, Implement measures to manage water and control soil erosion, Develop
criteria to assess suitability of new farming land in terms of environmental
and social sustainability, Conduct environmental impact assessments to ensure
that the activities at the farm have no harmful impact on the adjacent
protected areas and identify mitigation measures if and where required
Undergraduate Degree in
Sustainable Agriculture or Environmental Management/Science, Must have
excellent communication skills, Must have experience of working in Southern
Africa, Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision, Must
have a solid understanding of conservation issues and experience of working in
conservation, Must have solid experience in participatory training techniques
specifically in sustainable agriculture, Must have experience of working in
sustainable agriculture projects, Must have at least 5 yrs experience working
in sustainable agriculture
