The
Adäka Cultural Festival as launched in July 2011, with a mission to develop
and deliver a world-class, iconic festival that will showcase, celebrate and
foster the development of Yukon’s diverse and distinctive First Nations arts
and culture. The 7-day festival features a vibrant sche

dule of events that
includes traditional and contemporary music, dance, drumming, arts and crafts,
storytelling, film, artist demonstrations, public workshops and cultural presentations,
youth programming, a fashion show and more. Each year, the festival program
features over 200 aboriginal artists from all corners of Yukon along with guest
artists from across Canada and other parts of the world. Now in its fifth year,
Adäka has become a highly anticipated artistic and cultural gathering and an
established Yukon event that helps attracts visitors from around the world.

JOB SUMMARY
Working
under the direction of the Executive Producer, the Assistant Producer is
responsible for the development and implementation of the performing arts
program, community engagement and partnerships program, and all aspects of
marketing and communications for the Festival.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

PROGRAM – PERFORMING ARTS/CULTURAL

Work with Festival Team and program partners to develop and implement
performing arts program for the 2015 Festival to include: main-stage
performances, cultural presentations, Aboriginal films, storytelling, community
feast/drumming circle and more.

Coordinate all operational, programming and logistical needs associated with
program.

Supervise sound and stage personnel to successfully deliver program elements.

Work with team to implement a participant needs program that includes
accommodation, travel, ground transportation, meals, special needs, elder care.

Develop detailed production schedules and run sheets for each day of
programming.

Partnerships

Work with existing and new program partners to develop joint programming and
projects for Adaka. Current partners include Yukon Arts Centre, BYTE, Skookum
Jim Friendship Centre, Yukon Film Society Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre.

Marketing & Communications

Implement Festival marketing and communications plan to include:

Financial Management

Manage budget commitments and expenditures in assigned areas of responsibility

Negotiate and manage contracts for all performers and sound/tech contractors

Work closely with Executive Producer to adhere to First Nations protocol
requirements

Project Evaluation & Reporting
Work
with Festival team to evaluate and report on all aspects of the Festival.

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-secondary degree or relevant work experience in arts, tourism, or event
management

Knowledge of the Yukon First Nations Nations, non-profit, arts, tourism and
Whitehorse market are assets

Proven track record of successfully leading and managing complex, multi-faceted
project or events

Significant experience in marketing and communications

Significant experience and proven track record in successful fundraising,
budget planning and management
