MM (Operations) Limited is a unique start-up dedicated to improving the lives
of thousands of people in Malawi off the back of a successful, commercially
driven, profit making business.  MM (Operations) Limited has built a state
of the art food processing factory in Salima, Malawi.  The company is a
values based agro-processing business working closely with local communities to
grow and process fruit, within the requirements of the Rainforest Alliance
international sustainability standards.


A job opportunity has arisen and MM (Operations) Limited seeks to fill the
following vacancy and appoint a self motivated and driven individual to become
part of its dynamic team.  The job will be based in Salima.

Nursery Manager
Role purpose
– To commercially operate company nurseries leading to the propagation of
healthy quality fruit plants and planting material which will lead to the
production of high quality fruits for the company farms

Data and information
– Collect accurate data on dates of sowing, potting and grafting, insect pests,
diseases and their control, Analyse and interpret information collected
Processes
Setting processes for the de-husking of mango seeds, making of compost, filling
pots, collection of scions and the nurturing, watering and health of young
plants in the nursery
Logistics – Ensure that all materials and tools required to support manual
nursery related activities are available at the right time and in the right
places

Applicants should be qualified to Degree level in Horticulture and ideally have
a minimum of 3 yrs of experience in supervision in an agricultural
context  – preferably in tropical fruit production in Africa, He or she
should have excellent decision-making skills and have the ability to work with accuracy
and attention to detail

Quality – Monitor nursery activities to ensure high quality of plant production
during every stage of rootstock/seed selection, planting, propagation, nursery
care, growth, insect pest and disease management and composting, Monitor
compliance with set standards including standard operating procedures (SOPs)
and Rainforest Alliance sustainability requirements, Ensure completeness of
reports an records and monitor efficiency and effectiveness within the
nursery
