Position Overview:

We are seeking an energetic manager of people and projects to apply
her or his experience towards a 6-month position with one of North
America’s most successfu

l vegetarian organizations.

Providing information and support for almost 70 years, the Toronto
Vegetarian Association is looking for an organized and ambitious
self-starter to manage the day-to-day operations of the association
and lead a small team of staff and contractors.

The Interim General Manager will plan, direct, and manage people,
policies, and the strategic and operating plans of the association.
The successful candidate will supervise and empower the Toronto
Vegetarian Association staff team in meeting organizational goals and
objectives. At times this will include hands on work to help execute
projects. The Interim General Manager will support the board of
directors in executing its governance duties and pursuing the
strategic priorities of the Toronto Vegetarian Association.

This role calls for adaptability, the ability to meet strict
deadlines, and the ability to motivate others to achieve results.
Strong communication and relationship building skills are critical.
Passion for celebrating vegetarian food and ideas in creative new ways
is an asset.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities of the Interim General Manager include, but
are not limited to:

Operational Planning and Management
• Develop, lead, and deliver on operational and program specific plans
• Work with staff and contractors to set targets and assist in meeting
objectives on time and on budget
• Ensure sponsorship, exhibitor, and advertising contracts are
executed faithfully to ensure customer satisfaction
• Liaise with volunteer leaders to ensure programs are operating effectively
• Work with President to prepare for board meetings; liaise between
board & staff
• Prepare monthly staff updates for the board & ensure program reports
are delivered on schedule
• Provide program support on major projects such as the Veg Food Fest,
the Vegetarian Directory, and Veggielicious
• Coordinate media opportunities & media outreach
• Represent the Toronto Vegetarian Association in our community
• Prepare bookstore & merchandise inventory and create order list for
the Veg Food Fest
• Ensure organizational policies and procedures are adhered to at all times

Human Resources & Financial Management
• Ensure that HR policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
• Ensure that summer staff are recruited, hired, trained, and managed
in an professional and effective manner
• Check-in weekly with all staff members to ensure they have necessary
supports to achieve objectives
• Prepare and lead weekly staff meetings to ensure clear
communications between staff
• Conduct performance check-ins and evaluations of staff in
consultation with the President and intervene to improve staff
performance as required
• Oversee program budgets; prepare and distribute cheques to pay expenses
• Assist with financial management, monitor revenues & expenses, and
work with the Treasurer to forecast major programs’ financial
performance

JOB RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports to: Board of Directors via the President (Diane Burgin).
• Workers supervised: Donor & Volunteer Resources Coordinator (Barbi
Lazarus), Festival & Events Coordinator.
• Contractors supervised: Directory Coordinator (Andrea de Vries).

CONDITIONS
• This is a 6-month, full-time position from mid-April to mid-October.
• This position requires some evening and weekend work, such as
providing onsite support at special events.

COMPENSATION
• Compensation is $20,800 over the six-month contract. Employees are
paid bi-weekly.
• A generous benefits package is available including health and dental
insurance.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve objectives
with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating projects and events.
• Demonstrated ability to manage performance and motivate others.
• Knowledge of human resources and financial management.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to
interact and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals.
• Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing,
spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.
• Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating
to the TVA mission.
• Must follow a vegetarian diet (free of meat, fish and poultry or the
flesh of any animal).

Demonstrated competence in the following:
