Wood’s Homes is a non-profit,
nationally accredited children’s mental health treatment centre, based in
Calgary. Our regional programs are located in Canmore, Strathmore, Lethbridge,
Fort McMurray and Fort Smith, NWT. We have more than 350 dedicated employees.

adolescents, challenged with some very tough issues, is not easy. These are the
times when our frontline workers spring into action. The type of work we do
requires quick thinking, confidence, forgiveness and persistence.
We are currently seeking 2
candidates with a desire in Employment
Counselling for clients that require assistance in making good
education and employment choices. This is a Youth and Family Counsellor I or II position.
The candidate that has experience
assisting clients with developing and implementing individual educational and
employment or career plans will be given preference, and will also be someone
who can network within the community, generating and cultivating strong
relationships with local businesses and developing partnerships with employers
to secure community-based, long-term meaningful employment for at-risk youth.
This position reports to the
Manager of the Street Services Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Case management: assisting youth to develop employment
skills and goals - Intake and discharge for students
- Providing life skills training such as communication,
conflict resolution and regulating emotions in work environment. - Teaching job readiness skills, resume building, job
searching, interviewing skills - Liaison/creation of relationships with employers
- Coaching youth to help them maximize success
- Work with employers to help them understand the dynamic
of working with youth with troubled pasts. - Networking with programs and professionals to present
program and increase awareness of program in community. - Must be an effective, mature and appropriate role model
QUALIFICATIONS AND
EDUCATION:
- Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in the Social Sciences,
Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Nursing - YFC I – Minimum two (2) years of related experience in
working with young people in a residential setting. - YFC II – Minimum four (4) years of related experience in
working with young people in a residential setting. - Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Personal suitability is an important consideration.
- Must have a vehicle and be familiar with the City of
Calgary
