Overview:

350’s work on tar sands and the Energy East pipeline is growing across
Canada. We are looking for a t

alented, creative and dedicated
organizer to join our team to take on this pipeline and stop expansion
of the tar sands infrastructure. This position would be ideally
located in Montreal, Ottawa or Toronto.

The Energy East Organizer will report to and work with 350.org’s Tar
Sands team, to help craft and implement organizing plans for the
Energy East campaign and other tar sands campaigns in Canada. They
will work with community groups, First Nations, frontline communities
and grassroots organizers.

The organizer will use all the tools in our toolbox: big
grassroots-driven actions, digital campaigns, a variety of media
strategies, bird-dogging, working with a wide range of allies, and
sometimes civil disobedience.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with a variety of different
working speeds depending on the communities being partnered with, and
excited about building a powerful social movement to respond to the
climate crisis.

Required qualifications:
• Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal.
• Skilled organizer with proven experience in a range of organizing
roles – media, actions, coalition work, working with frontline
communities, etc.
• People-person who can artfully build relationships with organizers,
community groups and other allies
• Has nuanced understanding of the Canadian and Quebec political
landscapes, including First Nations issues in these contexts
• Possesses a strong desire to fight climate change
• Has an understanding of tar sands and pipeline issues
• Understands Indigenous rights and values the importance of climate justice
• Experience and success managing projects, teams, and volunteers
• Ability to quickly write and implement plans
• Creative problem solver, including the ability to generate fresh
campaign ideas
• Connections to the climate movement and other progressive political
spaces including volunteer and professional networks in Canada
• Comfort working remotely with colleagues in multiple time-zones via
skype, conference calls, and other online tools
• We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both
independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead
initiatives as well as take direction from others. Working at 350.org
requires the ability to lead and follow.

Desired Qualifications:
• Fluent French – both oral and written (This position will be
primarily working in English, but candidates able to work in French
with Quebec groups would be an asset.)
• Experience working with groups in Quebec
• Strong writing skills and experience with blogging and op-eds
• Experience running workshops & trainings

Position Type: Full-time, 6 month contract

Application Deadline: This position is open until filled

Start Date: As Soon As Possible (Flexible)

Contract Length: Six months – with the possibility of extension
depending on a budget and performance review.

Compensation: Competitive compensation based on experience.

Location: This position would be ideally based in Montreal, Ottawa or
Toronto. The potential to do this from other Canada locations can be
discussed with the ideal candidate
