Credit Valley ,Conservation Youth Corps Jobs in Canada

Position:
Conservation Youth Corps – Crew Leader – 4 Casual Positions
Organization: Credit Valley Conservation http://www.creditvalleyca.ca/
Location: Mississauga, GTA, Ontario

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, this position will support CVC’s
Branch Out, Conservation Youth Corps (CYC), Community Outreach and
Education programs.

Working closely with the Program Coordinator, Crew Leaders will plan
and deliver classroom presentations to secondary students during the
spring/fall Branch Out program. The in-class presentation enhances
secondary science and geography curriculum and raises awareness about
local climate change issues. The presentation will also help prepare
teachers and students for their stewardship excursion. During the
stewardship excursion, Crew Leaders will meet students at a local
restoration site and lead them through a full day of action and
learning. Crew Leaders will work with CVC Education staff to
facilitate a tree planting and educational activities.

Crew Leaders will be responsible for supervising and leading a crew of
7 high school volunteers for one week at a time during the summer
Conservation Youth Corps program. They will safely lead volunteers in
a variety of stewardship activities throughout the watershed.

As a member of the Community Outreach and Education teams, Crew
Leaders will be required to assist at special weekend events like
Canoe the Credit, Community Earth Day Celebrations, Community Tree
Plantings, and Corporate Tree Plantings. Working with other CVC staff
and external community partners, Crew Leaders will connect with many
stakeholders within the CVC watershed. Depending on the special event,
Crew Leaders may lead environmental education activities like a nature
hike, assist with stewardship activities like bird box building and
tree planting, or assist with moving plant materials and equipment.

Candidates should have strong leadership and supervisory experience
with youth and be motivational and enthusiastic in the performance of
their duties. Crew Leaders will be expected to participate in all
activities with the engaged audience, which may include strenuous
physical activities in the outdoors, traversing uneven terrain in
potentially adverse weather conditions.

This role requires candidates to work independently, have strong
organizational and problem solving skills, and experience in the
environmental field while representing the Credit Valley Conservation.

CVC is committed to the health and safety of all its employees,
program partners, and volunteers. Crew Leaders will, at all times, be
expected to put safety first, assume responsibility for their own
safety, for that of co-workers, and for that of the youth entrusted to
