Job Description

The Images Festival is seeking an Executive Director and Venue
Manager
North
America’s largest exhibitor of independent and experimental moving image
culture is currently seeking an Executive Director. The person in this position
will work in a collaborative environment to plan and execute a successful 2015
festival involving multiple exhibition sites and events, and public, corporate
and community partners. This is a year-round position reporting to the Board of
Directors. Images is a dynamic workplace and annual forum for excellence and
innovation in contemporary media art.
The
Images Festival, based in Toronto and in its 28th year, features artist-made
Canadian and international film and video and related new media, installations
and live performances. This 10-day festival combines theatrical screenings with
gallery-based media art installations and live performances. Images also
features symposia, artists’ talks, special curated programs, touring programs,
year-round programming and publications alongside its annual competition
selection of moving image artworks.
Position Summary / Executive Director
The
Executive Director of the Images Festival provides leadership to staff and
volunteers in managing all operations and affairs of the festival and
fulfilling the mandate of the organization. The ED administers the general
operations of the organization under the direction of the Board of Directors in
a way that is consistent with approved goals, objectives and policies.

Position Summary / Venue Manager
This
position will work in a collaborative environment to plan and execute a
successful 2015 Festival (April 9-18) involving multiple exhibition sites and
events with artists, the public, corporate and community partners. Images is a
dynamic workplace and annual forum for excellence and innovation in the
contemporary media arts.Summary: This four to six week contract position acts
as the Venue Manager for our festival venues, coordinating our box office
systems and working closely with on site interns, volunteers, staff and board
to successfully manage our public face by providing excellent customer service
and management.


 

Requirements:

Executive Director Qualifications:
• Minimum 5-years experience managing an arts or culture-related
organization/corporation;
• Deep knowledge of the not for profit arts sector and public/government
granting processes;
• Experience with fundraising, corporate and foundation funding/development
processes;
• Demonstrated grant and proposal writing and editing skills;
• Well organized, self motivated, strong communication skills working in a team
environment;
• Detail oriented with an ability to multitask and meet often-overlapping
deadlines;
• Demonstrated experience in managing staff and volunteers;
• Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies;
• Comfort with public speaking and engagement with media, public and
stakeholders;
• Demonstrated budget creation and monitoring skills;
• Comfortable in a Mac-based environment (including strong working knowledge of
Filemaker Pro and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)
Additionally, experience with Adobe Creative Suite, websites and OS X server
are considered strong assets);
• Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset.
Venue Manager Qualifications:

• Minimum two (2) years experience with front of house/venue management;
• • Comfortable working in a fast paced and challenging environment;
• • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team setting;
• • Organized, detail-oriented and able to problem solve;
• • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize;
• • Able to work flexible hours when needed;
• • Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure;
• • Strong communication, written and organizational skills are imperative.
• •Experience managing staff and volunteers
• • Must be available for all 10 days of the festival (April 9-18)
