Eco Camp is a nature an
d gardening focused environmental day camp

Major Responsibilities
• Plans, organizes, implements and leads nature and/or organic
gardening specialty camp program that is age appropriate and
incorporates the principals of healthy child development.
• Provides resources for other staff to assist them in incorporating
nature and/or organic gardening specialty programs and workshops for
their camp groups.
• Maintains children’s organic garden as required, including watering,
weeding, compost maintenance, etc.
• Provides set-up and take down of equipment.
• Interacts with parents/caregivers, staff and participants to provide
program information.
• Takes action to deal with incidents, problems, emergencies and
parent/caregiver concerns as outlined in divisional policy and
procedures.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are available and meet Health and
Safety standards.
• Assists with planning and implementation of special events if required.
• Assists in the evaluation of the specialty program and make program
recommendations.
• Performs administrative tasks to support the program.
• Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications
• Educational background in environmental studies/science, education,
outdoor education/recreation or equivalent combination of education
and experience
• Experience planning, organizing and implementing outdoor
environmental education and recreation activities, especially for
children 4 to 14 years old
• Knowledge of and experience in organic gardening practices
• Experience in working independently as well as in groups
• Ability to work with and supervise people of all ages, especially
children and youth
• Administrative, organizational, research, and program skills
• Good communication and public relations skills
• Must produce original current Standard First Aid and
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certifications as recognized by the
WSIB
• Current NLS Certificate preferred
• Must attend and successfully complete related mandatory and
in-service training sessions (NEO – New Employee Orientation).
• Willing to work up to 40 hours per week
Period of Employment
• June 24, 2015 – Sept 2, 2015
• Some pre-season week day, evening and/or weekend training required
• Possible option of occasional hours in May-June or September-October
if available

• $17.67 per hour
