The School of Community Education and Development (SCED) at Yukon
College is looking for a qualified individual to instruct and
coordinate the Foundations- Personal Support Worker Program (12 weeks)
at Hets’edän Kú’ in Pelly
Crossing, Yukon. The goal of the program is
to provide students with resources, skills, and tools to increase
their employability in the field of Home Care.
Hets’edän Kú’ (Pelly Crossing Campus of Yukon College) focuses on
community development through education. This position is a great
opportunity for an individual who is passionate about community
development and health, and who would like to work in a small Northern
Indigenous community. Training modules will address subjects such as:
Diabetes, Nutrition, Mental Health First Aid, Social Determinants of
Health, delivering and providing care to clients, and site visits.
The candidate will be required to coordinate with the local Health
Center and social service providers in Whitehorse to deliver on
curriculum modules such as a workshop on Diabetes. Students will be
preparing and delivering Meals on Wheels once weekly using locally
grown produce, and language and culture are core components of the
program.
For individuals who are prepared to work in a small Northern
community, this is a great opportunity to work in the fields of
education and community development. The candidate should have
knowledge about Indigenous Peoples, and be passionate about helping
others and working hard. Some self-direction in the delivery and
creation of curriculum will be required. The ideal candidate will be a
currently licensed/registered Nurse with 3-5 years relevant experience
(i.e., working in community settings), instructional experience or a
demonstrated experience/interest in teaching adults, strong
communication skills, and have a collaborative approach to problem
solving.
