The Ontario Centre for Climate Impacts and Adaptation Resources
(OCCIAR), at MIRARCO/Laurentian University in
Sudbury is currently
accepting applications for a full-time intern. The contract will be
one year in length, and may lead to a permanent position. The position
is based in Sudbury.
Job Description
The intern will be responsible for supporting the project lead, and
will work on tasks associated with a project to better understand the
damages and costs associated with extreme weather and climate change
over the next 25 years.
Responsibilities include:
• Identification and classification of municipal asset categories
• Develop loss-damage scenarios for each asset type and for various
climate hazards
• Develop communication materials to support community outreach
• Assist in the development of an economic assessment tool for
Canadian municipalities
• Assist in delivery of accurate and timely research memos and reports
to OCCIAR supervisor
• Remain current on recent climate change research
• Assist in ensuring that project work plan and deliverables are
managed in a timely manner
Who is eligible?
Unemployed or underemployed youth (under the age of 30) who have
graduated with a degree or diploma from a post secondary institution
within the last three years, are legally entitled to work in Canada,
and have not been previously employed under a FedNor Youth Internship
funding agreement, or other federal or provincial internship with pay
for a period of six (6) months or more.
Education:
Undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies or Commerce
The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in the
following areas:
• Climate change impacts and adaptation, climate models and data, statistics
• Commerce, finance and economics.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven time-management, organization/prioritization skills to meet deadlines
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner.
• Extensive experience with Word, Excel, Power Point and e-mail applications
Salary:
This full-time position is partially funded by FedNor’s Northern
Ontario Development Program.
