Water Docs goals:
• Create ‘buzz’ and increase awareness about the festival and
associated programs throughout the GTHA
• Leverage your existing press/media connections, and establish new
relationships with relevant media contacts, in the areas of (1) arts &
entertainment (film), (2) environment, (3) news, (4) community press &
radio
• Generate repeated media coverage in advance of and throughout the festival
Responsibilities (proposed; subject to discussions with the successful
candidate):
• Identify and establish connections with appropriate media
representatives (press, radio, tv)
• Identify and connect with relevant online communities and news sources
• Establish media relationships (sponsorships, partners) (radio, tv,
periodicals)
• With Water Docs staff, identify and track specific audiences to
reach through publicity
• Establish a 3-month publicity timeline to get the word out widely
and establish festival recognition
• Write (in conjunction with Water Docs staff) compelling press
releases targeted to specific audiences and media
• Source film-specific press kits, photos, links to online trailers
• Arrange on-air interviews (tv, radio, online (webcasts, podcasts))
• Attend several meetings of the core planning team (Design Team) (at
least 2 before the festival (to present and discuss publicity
strategy), 1 following (to de-brief))
• Liaise with website developer to post Water Docs press kits and
other materials
• Script engaging public service announcements and videos
• Create and coordinate social media content (Facebook, Twitter) with
the festival’s Social Media Coordinator
• Attend screenings where media contacts are in attendance
• Prepare and present a post-festival report, documenting media
coverage achieved and audiences reached, and including recommendations
for the 2016 festival and a list of media contacts with contact
information
Desired Skills:
• Press, broadcast and social media experience and contacts
• Demonstrable history of successful campaigns
• Excellent writing skills – English (French would be a bonus)
• Excellent internet research ability
• Interest in environmental issues, and especially a concern for
clean, healthy water for future generations
