The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives’ Association
(NSWNMA) is a trade union that represents the industrial, professional and
legal interests of nurses and midwives in NSW.

We seek a self-motivated Professional Officer (Work,
Health and Safety) to join our Professional Services team on a permanent
full-time basis.

Reporting to the Professional Services Manager you
will provide representation on WHS and professional interests of members of the
NSWNMA on national, state and local forums.

The key responsibilities include:
- Providing best practice advice and support to the
NSWNMA officers and members. - Identifying potential WHS interests or concerns
to the members and the NSWNMA and responding accordingly. - Developing and reviewing NSWNMA WHS policies in
compliance with all relevant Workplace Health and Safety legislation and
requirements. - Improving own professional skills and knowledge
relevant to the position.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated analytical and research skills
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation of
detailed submissions and report writing - Demonstrated experience in project management and
policy development - Demonstrated experience in WHS inspections and
audits - Excellent consultation, communication skills, both
written and verbal - An ability to work independently as well as in a
team environment - Demonstrated time management skills
- Proven competency in Microsoft Office (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) - Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent
experience - Knowledge of contemporary nursing, midwifery and
health industry standards and issues related to the WHS of nurses and
midwives at all levels - Public speaking and presentation skills
- A commitment to the trade union movement
