Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week, including some evenings and weekends
Rate: $18/hour for the first year

Start Date: January 5, 2015
Duration: 3-year contract

Halton Green Screens (HGS) is an existing program offering monthly
environmentally-focused public film screenings in Oakville. Film
nights include a discussion after the movie, facilitated by a guest
speaker. Thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this
program is being expanded in a number of ways: 1) to other parts of
Halton, 2) to include more targeted screenings and summer outdoor
movie nights, and 3) to schools, working with individual school
communities. Goals of the HGS program are to increase Halton
residents’ awareness of global and local environmental issues and to
increase engagement in environmental initiatives.

The HGS program is funded for four days per week. To fill out the job
to full-time, the Program Coordinator will also participate in Halton
Environmental Network (HEN)’s communications and events. HGS is a
member of the Halton Environmental Network.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with the Steering Committee to develop strategic, operational,
and long-term sustainability plans for the HGS program and identify
partner organizations and sponsors
• Implement the plans
• Organize movie screenings, including working with partner
organizations to arrange speakers, volunteers, and follow-up
activities
• Publicize and promote events, including creating and maintaining HGS
social media presence
• Work with Schools Subcommittee to plan the program for area schools
• Contact and work with individual schools to deliver the HGS program,
considering each school’s unique interests, needs, and circumstances
• Keep accurate records and reports of each event, including evaluation
• Create and maintain an inventory of potential HGS program options,
films, and related resources
• Manage HEN’s Facebook presence
• Coordinate HEN’s presence at public events
• Recruit, train, coordinate, and supervise event volunteers for HGS and HEN
• Assist with planning, publicity, and delivery of additional HEN events

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED
• Strong communication skills – verbal and written
• Experience with events coordination
• Experience with volunteer recruitment and coordination
• Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, internet, email, and
social media
• Ability to quickly learn other computer/online programs as
necessary, including WordPress, MailChimp, etc.
• Strong time and project management skills
• Experience with project evaluation
• Ability to work individually and collaboratively with others to
achieve common goals
• Good listener
• Detail-oriented
• Available evenings and weekends and willing to travel within Halton
Region, with access to a car

QUALIFICATIONS – DESIRABLE
• Completed university or college education, preferably in with a
degree or certificate in communications and/or event management
• Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues
• Comfort speaking in front of groups
• Experience as a teacher or leader delivering programs to youth and/or
children
• Experience working in a non-profit environment
• Basic knowledge of HTML
• Basic graphic design skills
