OBJECTIVE
To manage day-to-day operations of the Environment & Public Affairs
(E&PA) department for the Northern Alberta market area.
OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of E&PA, this position optimizes
environmental ma
nagement practices throughout the Northern Alberta
market area, including the Greater Edmonton Area, Fort McMurray, and
Grand Prairie. This role supports all product line operational efforts
in complying with environmental, legal, and Lafarge requirements. This
includes maintaining and further implementing the Environmental
Management System (EMS) and related elements. The position supports
development of a culture focused on excellent and effective
environmental management and stakeholder engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Demonstrates a commitment to a safe work environment; understands
the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts
in a visible manner
• Support operations in achieving and maintaining compliance with
legal and internal requirements
• Advise senior management and the Director E&PA of key changes in
legal requirements and changes in industry standards
• Keep current with all federal, provincial, regional and local
environmental legal requirements and monitor developments and changes
• Prepare environmental documentation for approval, license or permit
applications for new or existing operations
• Develop and deliver environmental training programs for operations
• Perform environmental inspections, audits, and investigations on operations
• Complete Environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI) assessments
on operations
• Track and report KPI results on a regular basis to senior management
and the Director E&PA
• Assist operations with environmental goals and objectives and help
identify environmental improvement opportunities
• Work with operations to ensure environmental liabilities and issues
are identified, managed and reported for all Lafarge properties
• Assist operations in identifying and managing capital projects
related to site environmental upgrades
• Actively participate on various industry environment-related
organizations and liaise with peers to keep abreast of industry
standards and emerging issues
• Contribute to Western Canada E&PA Leadership team in a collaborative
and productive manner
• Assist with the development, maintenance and further implementation
of the EMS and related elements
• Perform and report on the environmental element of the due diligence
process for acquisitions and divestments as required
• Based on legal and Lafarge requirements, report all significant
environmental issues identified during environmental inspections,
audits, and investigations immediately to senior management and the
Director E&PA
• Compile area environment data, present summaries and submit monthly
reports to senior management and the Director E&PA
• Responsible for people management of coordinator and other relevant
E&PA team members (summer student, intern, etc.) as necessary.
• Develop and implement public affairs programs in coordination with
Director E&PA
• Develop and implement community relations and stakeholder engagement
programs in coordination with Director E&PA

QUALIFICATION PROFILE
Education and Work Experience:
• Minimum technical diploma or University degree in Earth Sciences,
Environmental Studies or related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of related environmental experience preferably
including manufacturing and related industry exposure
Knowledge and Skills:
• Working knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal environmental
laws and regulations
• 5 to 7 years of leadership experience
• Proven supervisory experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent facilitator and training skills
• Computer proficiency in all MS programs
• Stakeholder engagement and community relations expertise and experience
