Title: Driver, Community Angel Food Runners (CAFR)
Reports To: Manager, Community Angel Food Runners
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
• A clean driver’s abstract from ICBC is required to be eligible for
an interview
• Effective interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written,
is required
• A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required
• A recent Food Safe Level 1 certificate is an asset
• A Class 3 Driver’s license is an asset
• Completion of secondary school may be required
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) is seeking an
experienced Driver to join their team on a contract basis until
January 23rd, 2015 with possibility of becoming a fulltime permanent
employee after this date. The position is five days a week and will
include weekend shifts. The Driver’s primary responsibility is to pick
up food from a variety of donor locations and deliver it the same day
to our agency partners. This is a very physical job. Drivers lift 50
pound boxes and the total lifted in a day can exceed 4,500 pounds. The
position combines the logistics of driving in traffic and the physical
requirements of moving, loading and unloading product with community
outreach and social engagement. A solid understanding of shipping and
receiving and general, warehouse operations is essential for success
in this role. You are a team player with a willingness to contribute,
an aptitude to learn, and a passion for making a difference.
MAIN DUTIES
• Work on weekends as required by the CAFR Manager
• Collaborate and communicate with fellow drivers.
• Contact donors each morning to confirm food picks ups for that day.
• Work with Warehouse staff to pull and load perishables for daily
delivery to agencies.
• Perform a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure
safety and reliability.
• Fuel trucks at card-lock locations. Report any vehicle issues to the
Manager, CAFR.
• Operate and drive vans or light trucks to pick up and deliver food
products safely and as scheduled.
• Organize food in the vans or light trucks to maximize efficiency and
load distribution.
• Weigh donated and distributed food and record information on the
daily record sheet.
• Communicate with CAFR’s Manager in person, through email, or on the
road using a cell phone to resolve any schedule changes and equipment
issues as required.
• Provide relief to other food bank drivers as required. Assist in
other areas of GVFBS as necessary.
• Participate in on-the-job training opportunities, such as safe food
handling, community advocacy, and operating pallet jacks and other
equipment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Physically fit and knowledge of proper lifting techniques required
to lift up to 50 lbs to an average total of 4,500 pounds in a day.
• May need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking and climbing
stairs during the day.
• Reaching above shoulder heights or below the waist.
WAGES
• Starting wage: $15.23
• Contract: until January 23, 2015 with possibility of becoming a
fulltime permanent position
