About Organic Alberta:
Organic Alberta represents and supports Alberta`s entire organic
industry, and delivers programs, in partnership with other provincial
partners, related to field
crop production across all three prairie
provinces. We serve all certified organic and transitioning producers
and processors, as well as businesses across the value chain including
but not limited to distribution, transportation, brokers & buyers,
marketers, organic brands, certifiers, inputs, seed, feed, and
retailers. Organic Alberta, in collaboration with partners across the
prairies, is spearheading a program to increase the production and
quality of organic grains and other field crops.
Job Description:
Organic Alberta is looking for a dynamic, highly personable candidate
who will be able to engage with and deliver programs to farmers
regarding the potential of organic agriculture. The current strong
demand for organic products has resulted in a supply shortage of
organic ingredients. The candidate will be a key player with the
Organic Alberta team to increase organic grain and field crop supply.
This position will focus on promoting the business advantage for
organic farming in order to attract new growers to help meet this
demand. The position will also work with the team to deliver programs
aimed at supporting farmers through the transition period. While
knowledge of organic agricultural practices is an asset, we are
willing to train candidates with a background in other types of
agriculture.
Summary of key duties:
• Manage the promotional campaign program and work with marketing
companies to design and develop marketing materials, trade show booth
etc.
• Develop materials that will support farmers in the transition to
organic production.
• Attend agricultural trade shows, and coordinate speakers at
colleges, schools etc, and engage commodity and other agricultural
organizations
• Coordinate workshops, mentorship programs, events, and other programs
• Create communications and promotions materials such as farmer
profiles, promotional leaflets, magazine articles, social media,
blogs, website materials etc. and manage website content
• Respond to inquiries related to transition
Qualifications:
The candidate will demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:
• A university degree, or equivalent experience
• Minimum 3 years experience with promotional campaigns and/or marketing
• Knowledgeable about agricultural production with minimum 3 years
experience working with farmers
• Experience attending agriculture-related trade shows and public speaking
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including
experience writing articles and/or promotional materials
• Adept at project management, ability to manage competing priorities,
and excellent time management skills
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to travel and work some evenings and weekends
• Understanding of organic management practices is not required, but
considered an asset
